Does the deleting site's 'who caught what' section only show names dropped that day that were caught? I swear I looked up a domain the other day and it was free but it's showing as caught, so it must've dropped that day and been caught? is that right?

Cheers
Lee

Yes, although it's not 100% accurate, I have found that some names in their available dropped list are gone but of course it's impossible to be sure if the names were regged as a result of being shown as available on their site or were caught on the drop but not picked up in their scans.

Yes but what I mean is, is it possible for that section to include domains that hadn't dropped. Perhaps the site I looked it up on was playing up, it said it was free, I'm sure I checked nominet though.

It all depends what you class as a "drop"....... at the moment the 'who caught what' page is currently showing names caught within a few hours on the same day i.e. ones caught by dropcatchers. We could however run another check a day later to get all the caught names however many would be manual registrations..... maybe I need two pages and to stop these names being shown in the available list.

Also with so many domains in the database (even filtered down) and to stay within the DAC limits it can be quite a slow process for it to go through the names. There are also problems with server load etc and so the lists are not live but updated every hour or so.

But we will try and speed things up ..........

For instance I know of one domain dropping that you haven't go listed, if that gets caught would you list that as caught? I'm guessing not. So in all probability when I checked the domain (I wanted .co.uk) it was suspended and not free to reg.

As you will know there is no zone file for UK domains so we have to basically guess what every domain would be. Over time i've collected lists from all sorts of places and made lists etc. However i'm never going to be able to get them all .......

So no it won't appear in the caught list because everything starts from our "master list".

For example if you go and register this right now:

kelhwf34534edfrger234rfwefwer34.co.uk

how am I going to know about it? or even guess it?

Do I really need to list names like that anyway? are the resources better spent on checking good names?

However I will try and make a good "two word" lister next ..... like Exody have http://www.exody.com/com/drop/com.drop.w5w5

The domain is a lot better than that (I'll email you when it drops), it won't drop anyway it will get renewed - there's a clue to the current renter. That's all I wanted to know, I kind of figured it couldn't be possible, I was just trying to find an explanation as to why the domain I was going to reg appeared free.

Your site is great as it is, I'm just not too great at wording things properly.

The domain was ibroadband.co.uk - tagnames got it in the end. I know Jo Kelly does the suspensions to get interest and a possible sale, but his playing around lost him money this time round, I'd have paid a few quid for it, now he aint got nothing.

No one that knew about it (and a lot didn't) expected it to drop so I didn't email asking for a price and not many bothered trying to catch it - you could even book it it on dropcatcher - albeit tagnames and we know tagnames probably aint going to reply to the email.

Nevermind.

Maybe someone with PRSS can do a search of all Jo' Kelly's names and send me a list ;)

Otherwise i'd have to get a dictionary and put "i" on the front and ".co.uk" on the end and check the whole lot.

And send it on to me, I want to see if there's any .coms available in same or similar words because the PRSS is bloody dead handy for that.

he probably let it drop because it's rubbish:)

Yes like the one I enquired about that you have that's rubbish, still costs the earth though. There's always some value to someone, there's nothing rubbish about ibroadband, trust me, but he lost out in the end playing games. Now someone else is going to play games and probably never sell it. Again, their loss.

Jo Kelly does let domains drop occasionally, you can view all his domains online if you look hard enough.

Well he did this time, I should have spent some money trying. Oh well, I go off domains I don't get quickly, there's always another domain that can be developed.

Didn't mean to offend:) , however, in my opinion this type of domain is only any good to develop. Makes sense for tagnames to grab it as they have internetbroadband.co.uk as well.

webbroadband.co.uk & netbroadband.co.uk are both available.

Perhaps if you called and asked nicely.
