Just had a look on archive.org, looks like there was a busy forum once, but nothing since feb 04

I have backed up the DB from the PHPBB Admin options,
I assume that is enough to restore the Forum from should I need to?

Could you summarise the benefits of VB over PHPBB for me please?

It would have to be good for us to spend $160 to get it.

In terms of user preferences, that is arguable, although I would be interested to see some surveys.

For instance, I actually prefer the "soft" look and simplicity of phpbb.

Is phpbb considered more hackable than vbulletin?

phpBB has had a recent critical flaw which gave admin rights to anyone... and the ability to redirect anywhere or delete/modify anything.

I've tried a load of forums and ended up running everything on Simple Machines SMF. It's very fast, flexible and I understand how the code works.

But it's really just down to what you like.
Here's an example of a medium size forum

Have applied patch to v13, thanks Tifosi.

Have looked at vBulletin and most of the large forums are using it. Just need to research a DB import tool and see how it would effect DomainPrices.co.uk integration.

VB seems to have good member management built in including a subscription module

Having installed and moderated both I can honestly say that VBulletin is deffinatley the better of the two.. i guess you get what you pay for.

That said i dont have a problem with phpbb at all.

@ admin there is a portal tool for VBulletin that would do the same job as your current portal script.. think its called vbportal.

i use vBulletin on DNuk.co.uk. It is far better than phpBB over performace, security and seting etc.

Not sure.

We will worry more about themes after we have worked out how to migrate the forum without losing everything!
