It came to my attention today (after recently moving house)that 1and1 internet have instructed debt collectors to collect a debt they say i owe them for non payment of domain names! the names in question were some .info's that i reged during the free reg promotion, as far as i knew the names were not on auto renew.

My credit card that was registered with them had expired so i just left it at that, and when they emailed me to say the names needed renewing i just thought well i will just let them expire, but NO! they took it upon themselves to renew them even though there was no way of taking a payment.

One would think that this would indicate that i didn't want to renew the names but they are trying to force me to pay for the renewals even though i don't want to renew them.

I find this all a bit heavy handed.

Any advice?

It depends what it says in the terms and conditions. I should think you have a good case against them and not paying. They can instruct whomever they like to collect money although phone calls do become harrassing but a few **** offs or I'll kill you and it does the trick after a while and you still aint got to pay, I whittled all I owed down to a quarter, let it go to court.

1and1 auto-renew I believe, you have to end the contract for them not to renew a domain.
