Domain Double Re-Direct

Hi Guys,

Heres the senerio : I am looking to point a trademarkname.co.uk to genericname.co.uk and then onto affailate link. so when they check back it just shows traffic comming from generic name.

How can I do this?

Should be a simple case of using .htaccess

I do the same already and the 'dodgy' name is shielded quite nicely from prying eyes.

No doubt someone will be along soon with a whizzier way, but the .htaccess file on the first (orginal domain) would be

Redirect /domain/index.html http://newdomain/forward.html

then you forward again from that domain using another .htaccess file in /forward, such as

Redirect /newdomain/forward.html http://affiliate.com/index.html

That should do the trick.

The two types of non-frame redirect that are most common are 301 and 302 (the HTTP codes)... You can use a tool like Sam Spade to view the raw output from webservers including the 'real' webserver headers to see what is being used at a particular site, also great for other stuff...

Seems to me that the main concern with redirecting a trademarkname would be the trademarkholder, in which case they would go directly to the trademarkname, and the gig is up anyway.

I don't mean to sound holier than thou, but the entire industry would be a lot better off if everyone avoided trademarknames. All they do is feed the lawyers, reduce the advertising revenue, and create monsters like the US Snowe bill.

Sorry. That doesn't quite answer your question, but something to ponder on anyway. It only takes one lawsuit to rid the desire to profit from trademarknames.
