Hi,

My first post on here and as you might guess this entire thing is completely new to me. My circumstances have changed very recently, I was about to embark on a bricks and mortar business, however, due to a family issue I am now looking to develop some income streams from home.

My first question is, does a domain name have to have an associated website or at least a landing page with it to be of any value over what it was registered for?

Second question, is there still money to be made from this by registering new domains now, or is the only money in domains that have been registered years ago?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Have you made any income from online endeavors to date?

If I understand your question, no.

A domain names value can be purely down to it's name and that's it

Second question, is there still money to be made from this by registering new domains now, or is the only money in domains that have been registered years ago?

Well I would say you could class registering new .uk domains a couple of different ways.

Hand registering & drop catching

It's hard to make any significant money hand registering unless you're pretty knowledgeable at separating the wheat from the chaff

Dropcatching youg et a chance at the best domains, single words etc, but you need to be a nominet member and have a good script + some luck.

Hi Murray

No money as yet. I am literally just starting a web design course after playing around with dreamweaver/wordpress for the last few months. Doing a massive amount of reading and learning in a couple of niches.

I am interested in developing a website based on a couple of ideas. In trying to register a domain name for my idea I stumbled into this industry, got intrigued and have been reading into over the last week or so.

Other than this forum, can you suggest any other quality sources of information on the industry? I've visited a few sites already.

Thanks for the info

Mark

Making money purely from domain sales starting in 2014 is extremly difficult. If you (enjoy) web design and get the skills and become good at it im sure this is the best way to make money online as people will pay good money for a trustworthy/hardworking/skilled web designer. Having knowledge of domains can certainly complement developing websites extremly well, just my opinion.
