Tried catching 3 domain names reg'd to the same person and due to drop 2 weeks ago.. I think about a week ago I rang nominet asking whats going on as they've not dropped yet. Nominet looks up the domains and say theres a comment on them and they cant tell me what it says but its a "special status" for all 3 domains, and likelyhood is that they wont get renewed at this time (which is over the 99 days now).. then today they got renewed
whats this special status all about, was the owner given special priviledges?

It might have been a TAG Holder that went into liquidation and the owner of the domain wasn't savvy enough to sort it for renewal etc. Never used it for email so wouldn't have noticed.

Going on something like that or similar circumstances it is only right I think they get special treatment with it been outside of their powers.

Just a guess. I don't know the domains so can't comment further.

The TAG holder was 123-reg! It was for a UK individual too

Well that ruled liquidation out and I know of dozens of companies that get domains reg'd as individuals by mistake.

I might be wrong and nominet are totally corrupt and are taking a back hander but I don't think so ;)

You'll never know so i'd move on, whats the domains by the way as they are now back to their rightful owners. :p

Legal issues with the domains, Lost credit card, the owner was in hospital, 123-reg back end screwed up and wouldn't let him renew............this list could go on forever :)

Cheers for the replies chaps. :)
The domains were mortgagenews/org/uk, financialnews/org/uk, and financenews/org/uk.

I was wondering if a drop could be delayed by starting a transfer.

I had a domain that was sold and I had released the TAG over a year ago, but the buyer hadn't sent in the forms and it was about to drop.

I emailed him, but it bounced. So I considered starting a transfer to one of my own addresses, to give me five more days to send a letter.
However I thought this might get me hassle with Nominet, so I didn't, but other might.

The owner is a member here.

...lol - I had a funny feeling it was some of my domains. ;)

On a more serious note - 123-reg's 'back end' systems are shockingly bad and now with their .uk prices going up by 40p (70% increase on previous 58p margin), I think it might be time to move registrar again. :(

Regards,

Sneezy.
