Quote "Access to the material will be offered in reading rooms at each of the six libraries."

What a pointless waste of time & money then!

"Where are you off to dear? Your dinner's nearly ready."

"Just down to the British Library to read some racist tweets".

I presume they mean there will be 1+ PCs set aside in the reading rooms with their browser homepages set/hard coded to the database search box. I can't imagine they'd keep access to this off-web, at least in the medium-longer term.

If this was announced a few days ago, it would have made sense, but what is the point? Surely if anyone has something to say that they want archived it is easy enough to publish on an existing website.

I only have a few "friends" on twitter & fb but the signal to noise ratio is low, imagine the noise level looking through all tweets & fb posts, you'll never find anything

You know the school near me, kids actually pay for their lunches with their finger prints.

Thinking about it so do mine

Is was only a matter of time before they got hold of everything you do online without a warrant. Won't be long before BT are recording every conversation for the telephone museum.

Isn't there already some sites that saves tweets that people have made?

Always amazed with what people put up online to be honest. If an employer looked at most of my friends Facebook pages and stuff there's no way that they'd give them the job.

many blogs and news sources reporting this

agreed big brother under guise of storing history
+ we're paying for it

The British Library archive will cover 4.8 million websites ending .co.uk and may go on to include social networks but not emails.
The process will start using UK websites that end in .co.uk

do you think the numbskulls on nominet's board realise the importance of .co.uk now and the fact that when something is not broke you don't fix it
the BIGGEST BRAND in the UK is not harrods, marks and spencer, or the flippin 'royals'
they can all disappear overnight, like many of the big chains are doing
it's .co.uk
