I know it is too late to factor these numbers into your thinking on .uk
but I thought I would share some numbers recently supplied by Nominet on the UK domain database.
I also requested how many of the UK domains registered in the last year where to existing registrants, as I suspect a huge percentage are to existing registrants. They declined to provide that number.

Answer: It is difficult to estimate with certainty because of the dynamic nature of the database however there are approximately 4.5 million unique registrants.
Q. How many domains are registered to overseas owners?
Answer: Approximately 10% of .uk domains are registered to non-uk registrants.
