Here's a freebie for those who'd like a quick and easy .uk whois lookup on their Windows desktop
Yebbut if you're using 'doze, it's even easier to open cmd and do:

Code:
telnet whois.nic.uk 43

HTH,

P.

Easier than:

wuk dom.co.uk?

And your domain is within the command line? No it's not. You're opening a telnet session and the query is expected after that.

Nahh... it don't help. Many more keystrokes required.

But thanks!

Talking about WHOIS clients (never understood why it has to be capitalised btw), has anyone see whois -c <country-code>? Pretty neat, although I'm not sure if it's only in FreeBSD.

Thanks for posting it Azooza, I am sure some members will find it useful but don't feel bad if they don't all, most people here will be doing bulk WHOIS lookups not single ones.

The forum also has a WHOIS option:
www.acorndomains.co.uk/whois.php

that allows multiple lookups.

This isn't very accurate for domains that have recently be registered, i.e. in the last 24 hours.

Yes, the trouble can be that http requests can yield cached results, and *bulk* queries either by http or tcp can suffer timeouts. Not an exact science, unless you get a single port 43 answerback which is generally accurate to the second.
