I just checked "nursery equipment" again and the site's not coming up anymore. Is it fluctuating or has it been nuked?

They just seem to be social links, like bookmarking sites, so the site gets a quick boost from the social signals then goes back to where it was, same as what happened with payday loans example.

I am sure those 2 payday sites wish they were back in their old positions! Neither of them are even page 1 any more. They were 2nd and 3rd before Dashu1 touched them.

Since I have a financial interest in a site ranking top 20 for "payday loans" I am quite happy to see them drop like this.

I do have several theories surrounding the full issue - but since they are just theories I shall keep them in my head for now

It's early days guys, we've only just finished building the links, reserve judgement until they settle down.

We've done loads of sites and they tend to retain their ranking even with no additional work done.

Besides which, have you ever seen a site jump from page 11 to page 1 from 20 social bookmarking links?

One thing I would say for the babyshop site is that it is completely un-optimised for that term - not in the url, title, H1 (there are no H1's on the home), etc.

Payday loans is a hugely competitive term, you can't honestly expect 20 links to put a site to no.1 for good irrespective of what the other surrounding sites are doing.

Give them some time to settle.

We don't just do social bookmarking sites, they were chosen for a reason.

Hi Dave, unknown to me when I offered Horoscopes as a 'test' site by business partner had started to go out and look for sites that we could link to, as this is the case this won't be a fair test of your technique. I'm sure there are other members that would like there site to be included in this test. This being the case could you remove my site from the list of sites in this test. From what you have said no work has been carried out as yet and the site doesn't rank at all so hopefully I haven't wasted your time.

I just read the above post. I'm happy to put forward my funny quotes website, Dave. Currently on page 3 for 'funny quotes' due to some tumblr links and I won't personallly be looking for any more backlinks at this time, so any improvement is down to you . It'd be good to see the results for a .org.uk and and you'd be trying to improve the exact match term.

As for the backlink discussions, I'd steer clear of bookmark type sites. How about actually taking the time to develop minisites and write articles on sites like hubpages?

We've (babyshop.co.uk) had some positive results. We started on page 9 and just checked and we're now on page 3. It did jump to page 1 straight away but this was never expected and it seems to have settled 6 pages higher than it was.

It's normally if you're logged into google - serps are personalised

originally I was going to write up the process and sell that, moving a site quite a long way with 20 social bookmarking links should show we're onto something - we chose social bookmarking links to prove it works, since most people think bookmarks don't work any more, but I can see it's still being treated with a lot of scepticism.

Maybe we should be selling a service to build say 40 links?

Would there be any interest in that if it was also offered at a very reduced rate for Acorn members?
