I was looking for the same few months ago. To be honest the answer is - no. Eventually I've bought directorypress and have several sites running it now, like shifu.co.uk and freightforwarders.eu.

Unless you can code, it can't be done for free. Even some of the plugins you would need for this have a small price tag. Directory Press is very cheap and does the job.
