The police have a nice power where they can seize a car if it's being used in a antisocial manner, however a warning notice has to be given first, if the vehicle/owner/driver has had a notice in the past year they can seize it :)

It would be good for the police to push this to court, as any magistrate would probably find this pretty bad, a total random attack.

I had something similar happen to me on Edinburgh when I was out running, some car drove past with the passenger hurling abuse, needless to say he got the shock of his life when their car got held in traffic, it was so funny watching the scroat trying to lock the door as I opened it....

So what happened next? It must have been funny to watch.

Sorry to those who could not care less about this saga, but I've had some more news. The car has been taken, but will be returned for a fee assuming all documentation is in order. The guy who did it has admitted several accounts of randomly soaking people and has been charged. He will go to court in the near future.

[snip]

Solution is to drive almost everywhere. Stuff the environment, unfortunately. I was walking home recently and was surrounded by four guys who wanted my wallet. I'd actually only popped out for a few minutes to feed a cat, at another property nearby, so I hadn't taken my wallet with me. Fortunately I had taken a few pound coins and my phone. I wasn't going to try to fight four at once so after pushing the lit cigarette in the mouth of the ring leader back into his mouth to see what happened (strange thing to do I must admit), watching him choke in surprise, and getting a cut lip in return, we then all had a roll around in the road where I scattered the pound coins and chucked my phone out for them as well. They also got a bunch of unlabelled keys. They then ran off, and I went home. Called the police not long after and remote wipped my phone (love BlackBerry).

I'm fine about it and it was simply being in the wrong place at the time. Police were great, and took me around the area trying to find them but we couldn't. CID visited the next day and it appears they'd robbed a girl of her handbag five minutes before they did me, and possibly did someone else after. I couldn't identify them due to their hoods and baseball caps. I was in a decent area but unfortunately they had legs and knew how to walk.

Easier to drive and remain safe. Better than being in the wrong place at the wrong time because these things don't just happen down dark alleys on council estates or out in town on Saturday night at 11pm.

That's terrible, I'm glad you didn't come off worse than you did. I've never really given too much thought to safety and people around me, I avoid large groups of suspicious looking people etc, but since it happened I've been more cautious. It must have been much worse for you. Was it close to your house then?

What did you use to wipe your BlackBerry? I have one and could probably do with installing the necessary software in case it happens.

Slow down

Quick one from me then ;) Many years ago!

A car with some young daft lad in a Nova was racing on the inside weaving in and out on a stretch of road leading out of the town centre missing cars by millimeters.

He was racing up peoples areses to get them to pull over and in general causing everyone hassle. Even passed people on bikes with kids at speed which really boiled my blood.

I could see this in my rear view mirror and saw him zooming up the inside and I just beamed once the lights turned red and was waiting next to me.

I looked at him he looked at me and he was laughing. I knew I would feel better getting out and flattening him but.....

Ready to grip his throat I got out, opened his car door and just turned his engine off, removed his car keys from the ignition and through them into someones garden. I said "Next time it will be an brick sh*t house, animal of a bloke with no cares who will just knock you out, so think yourself lucky you little pr**k and slow down"

Drove off pretty pleased and got a few thumbs up and car honks

But guess what.....

10 minutes later he flew by me doing the same thing  just hope he pis**ed someone else off that day too and he did get flattened.

Sad thing is, I now see this every day I'm out in the car.......

Nice to more people taking action, if everyone in UK did stuff like that then we wouldn't have these pricks :|

Life is a risk and I try to avoid significant risks by making calculations. So I'll still walk around streets in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, for example, within reason (i.e. daytime) but I realise there's a risk there. I'm just prepared for it, with a fake wallet to hand over and no important documents or valuables on me. :) I like to think I am sensible in what I do so try to avoid walking streets at night even in the UK, which was where and when the incident occured, but bad things occasionally happen. It's unfortunate but it's life so I haven't let it get to me, other than not walking out at night alone even if I am in a good neighbourhood.

Great post ! I want my wife and kids to still have me in their lives, not remember me for being a failed "have a go hero" for the sake of a few quid and a phone which can be replaced

10 years ago I was totally different, and would have fought fire with fire - guess that is what getting older and having kids does to you though, you realise that objects are replaceable but lives aren't

I think there is a fine line between being a hero and self defence but 4 on 1 and maybe with weapons then unless your a Black belt 3rd dan or above you probably would be best to handover your goodies and only fight back if they attack you.

Sorry if this is getting old, but I thought I'd post an update. The guy being charged failed to turn up at court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. I’m not sure what this will add to what would have been a small slap on the wrists.

Alex > I'm glad they don't only get a small slap on the wrist ;)

Morons and scum! Once some kid rode past me on a bike and spat in my face for no reason.
