Help please , my wordpress site , posts will not open.....

if you click on any of the posts they dont open and if you are in the admin area and make a new post , it shows in the list but will not open.

also if you are in the admin area and try and goto the preview section and try to preview the post it does not appear.

i do have a backup from a few days ago , but i'm not even sure how to upload a back up !??!

If anyone fancys having a look at it for me it would be much appreciated .

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to "break" a WordPress installation so many times in such a short period.

i'm not sure it was fully fixed the first time i fixed it because i assumed if the show-plates-news was loading , then surely each post would work , but alas no i think its to do with the cache , i have installed a backup , it has rolled back things such as plugins , but alas the problem as not been able to view post is still there....so it cant be the plug ins...who is the best person on here to take a look at the site to try and fix it for me !?!?

I dont understand the rest of the site works perfectly , but why cant i view the posts !!

Are the urls set correctly for each post in the admin section?

hi mat , no but i have been playing with cache and minify plug ins , me thinks they broke my site , can you fix it for me mat ? i wonder if the minfy thing that said it would create static pages caused the issue ?

i have tried to make new posts , they will post , but same issue , i tried to make a news page 2 and add posts there , same issue

When you make or edit a post there is a url under the post title. Are these still unique to the post? Or has something maybe changed them.

no , like you said they all point to the same address , nothing unique about them , they used to be e.g / Permalink: http://www.show-plates.com/show-plates-news/name-of-the-post
now they are all just

Permalink: http://www.show-plates.com/show-plates-news/

would reinstalling the theme help ? i dont want to make it any worse etc.

the theme i use as various codes it uses for different features on the site....

even when i make a new post , it does not give it a unique address

if i do a write a post , then click to preview the post , it shows the post , but as soon as its published , same issue , it writes the same permalink as the rest of the posts......

Well try giving one a unique address, as it should have and then see if it works. They should follow the title as standard for example if the title is Show Number Plates the url should be /show-number-plates

It is hard to workout without looking at your site admin. I would offer to look but I'm not at the pc over the weekend.

cheers mat , you have helped , i changed the setting to one of the standard options in permalink and site wrote that type of post correctly and it let me view the file , so it did write a unique address ........but its not the type i want the pretty type of urls not the ugly type (as they seem to be called on the wordpress forum).

so it appears that the site is working , it just when it comes to unique / pretty url's thats where the issue is , i might have someone to look at it tonight a guy over in canada , so fingers crossed , but i think it will be not to much of a problem for someone in the know , if i dont have any joy , i'll contact you on monday if thats okay and see if you can fix it for a fee of course.

okay , what you typed , worked !!!! but i wanted it to just show

so i just put in :- %postname%/

and it blinking worked a treat , my goodness what a star
