Assuming you have a shopping centre in mind, why not ask them how much it will cost?

Most of them have pricing on their, or their agents websites. Quite easy to find out, especially for the bigger centres. Watch out for the small print, and the requirement you have to have (PL Insurance, staffed at all time centre open, minimum area size etc).
Book in advance, and avoid anywhere near Nov / Dec.
Weekends are better (obviously), and Monday / Tuesday are dire.
Depending on product, might be worth contacting the local job agencies and get people who have done lead generation in person before. It costs, but better than putting someone from the pub who thinks they will be good at it, and it turns into an expensive mistake.

I have contacted the sales rep who quoted £550 + vat for weekend or £700 + VAT for the whole week.
Still waiting to hear back from them re: footfall and demographics.
How much does it usually cost to hire someone to man the stand for a day? 9-7pm?
The service we are selling is in the personal finance niche - all we would be collecting is user email addresses and contact details for a follow up call...
Also, if anyone knows of any shopping centres which a) have high footfall and b) attract a certain type of clientele, namely C1/C2 demographic - do let me know.

A lot of these questions are so dependent on where you're talking about operating that they're going to be impossible for anyone reading this thread to answer. Hiring somebody to man a stall in central London is going to cost you >> more than one in North Wales, for example. You may also find that there's an obligation to man the stall at all times, which could mean that one person is not enough (since they are going to need toilet and lunch breaks, at a minimum).

Worth going back to your rep to see if they have a daily (or at least weekday/weekend) breakdown. Otherwise even though the basic stall hire cost is only slightly more for a whole week than for a weekend, you could end up forking out a lot of extra costs (staff etc.) when walk-by traffic is so minimal there's no chance of recouping the investment.
I would think the best approach would be a low basic pay + tiered commission. Otherwise if they're not hungry for business they could sit around not making eye contact with people, take long lunch breaks, 20 mins to go to the loo etc
