How many domains does it take

How many domains does someone have to hold before we call them a domainer

I reckon it's quality not quantity. You could have 1000 junk names and not be a "domainer" (because you're never realistically going to be able to make a living in the industry on those names i.e. they're just a portfolio of broken dreams) or you could have 50 top, really eye-opening names and be a domainer.

But realistically if the quality's there, once you start getting into the "few hundred" you're probably on the way to domainerhood/domainerdom/?

I would agree with Edwin - it's quality not quantity, but I guess if you buy and sell them even if its only one or two you are still a domainer.

or is it when you first begin speculating domains? If you register a domain for a specific reason, i.e.: for your company website you are a user... if you start registering domains to hold, park, list for sale surely this would make you a domainer no matter what the quantity/quality?... Of course then we can start breaking down each domainer into groups... part time, full time, useless etc etc

Rich

Quantity and quality don't affect things at all. You can be a domainer with 5 or 10,000; good or bad. Just like a car dealer can have a few rusty heaps or 500 Lambos.

I bought most of my names nearly 10 years ago - but until recently, I've just sat on them (not even parked!) and paid the renewal fees.

So am I a 'domainer'? Personally, I don't feel like I am!

Now, if I start to sell a few and/or make some money off them, that'll be different... Then I'll feel that maybe I've arrived! :D

I'd rather say it's rather about living off the domain name business than a number of domains you've dealt with.

I only have about 100 but I buy mine to make into sites.

Wahoooo Post Number 20 :)

I guess we're all domainers. It's are you a professional domainer i.e. It's your main job making you enough money not to get a real job :D

I don't think theres many on here who fall into that category though.

I think you become a domainer the momment you buy the first domain with the purpose of selling it, it doesnt matter if is a shitty domain and you never sell it, you tried, and you became a domainer.
