If any of you decided tomorrow to quit the domain business, how would you go about selling all your domains?

If you have 1000 domains which might sell to end users for £250 each, how would you plan to shift them all in one go? I don't think it is likely to be very easy and judging by some of the recent portfolio sale threads on here which look slightly desperate I think some are already finding this out.

Would be interested to hear thoughts?

Thanks
Stephen.

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder when it comes to domains and for that reason I don't think you're ever going to sell a complete portfolio unless it's at fire sale prices and even then I think they'd have to be cheap, cheap.

Yep can't see even a serious domainer paying the right amount for a portfolio, not in a getting out sale, could take 36 months to get out. Depends on the names. Even if you do £200k a year from what you purchase, that's probably from rolling stock unless you're storing top quality names like tag or giant many on here are in the same situation unless you got traffic names that convert and can prove 18 months. Worth is as said, in the eye.

Yes - agreed.

At the moment I don't need to sell up - happy to sell 2 or 3 per month for £300 each but at some point most of us are going to have to think about how we might shed significant volumes. I don't see much evidence of people buying up portfolios anywhere around here so the exit strategy may well be over several years rather than months.

How proactive are you in your marketing activities?

Speaking of which, anyone who maintains a page listing all their domains for sale (some sector restrictions apply, no adult) is welcome to a free link here:

I am not proactive at all apart from listing at Sedo.

What is the general consensus of listing domains for sale on own sites? Any evidence that it might have generated any sales you wouldn't otherwise have achieved through the likes of Sedo?

portfolio sales

Quality would be a key factor, timing would be important but the quality of the domains would dictate.
