Just curious how you would go about valuing a domain name related to a band (not a current trendy pop band, but one that have been about for a number of years)?

I have had a call today asking about the name in relation to a new band website prior to an album release, where do you guys go from this point?

It would be nice to see the domain go to the band, but obviously I don't want to let it go without making a reasonable return.

It's value to you is what you can do with the traffic it receives or the potential to sell to fans visiting the site.

It's value to them is whatever they're prepared to go to in their marketing budget, so that's difficult to call. For what it's worth I would probably give them a sale price much higher than I wanted and then say to them you are open to reasonable offers and you'll get a feel for what they want to pay and you can decide if that'll do you.

... also as usual be polite and businesslike and that will help ... although band names aren't covered by trademarks, no one likes being held to ransom so a good attitude will help you make the deal ... good luck ...

Thanks, it would make life so much easier if there was a nice simple mathmatical formula for everything :)

I'll see what they say when they get back to me and then perhaps come back for advise or opinion if I need to.
