How to monetise "forced" mobile traffic?

Imagine you had picked up a dropped domain with a huge amount of traffic coming in.

• Traffic is not looking for anything in particular: think of it like a default browser homepage such as Google, Yahoo etc.
• Worldwide traffic.
• Mobile & Tablet traffic only.

How would you monetise it?
Would have to be non-spammy and would preferably be own pages rather than a redirect to another site.

Think of the niches which have some viral impact, for example things that shock, things which make people laugh, informational stuff.

Basically the stuff you see thrown around facebook, if you have generic large amounts of traffic it would be easier to get the word out on a mobile platform designed that instantly attracks, make that huge traffic spread the word/like/share/tweet and your on a winner.

This is great input, thanks! Something that is eye-catching enough in those 1-2 seconds to get the user to stay.

As it's mobile traffic maybe the app downloads would be a good one. That said it's majority Android traffic so as there is no Android App Store affiliate scheme (?) then I guess it would have to be deals to send traffic to app homepages which presumably would have to be done as a direct deal each time?

Also wondering about a custom search engine (powered by Google / Bing / ????). Feels a bit old school but this would balance user happiness and revenue.
