Thanks Admin.

Found it now - I knew it was in there somewhere

Does anyone know about sub directories?

Subdomains mapped to subdirectories is one way to go ie.

Code:
http://preston.lancashire.co.uk

retrieves content from

http://www.lancashire.co.uk/preston

the /preston is a subdirectory.

This option is rather limited in that you have to actually create all the subdirectories for the subdomains that you want to use.

Another option is to use a "wildcard" subdomain

manually edit the httpd.conf to add lines of the form:

ServerAlias *.lancashire.co.uk

and create CNAME record named * to the domain pointing to the A-record of the webserver.

You can then serve different content depending on the subdomain depending on the URL used, you could use .htaccess rewrite rules to redirect to files or scripts, or run a single script which detected the subdomain in the URL.

There are many powerful SEO techniques that can derive from this kind of approach - but make sure you're not serving duplicate content on your various subdomains or you will probably not see much benifit from them.

.

is this your domain ????

But does anyone know how to do this

example:

www.lancashire.co.uk - is the main domain

& I want to do this

www.preston.lancashire.co.uk

& I also want to do this

www.lancashire.co.uk/shopping/clothes.htm

Right now, I'm using fasthosts and putting everything into the htdocs folder so all pages appear like:

www.lancashire.co.uk/shopping.htm

or

www.lancashire.co.uk/clothes.htm

or

www.lancashire.co.uk/preston.htm

Hope I've explained myself properly

Cheers
