I had a domain name sell on DL for £50, which fell through this morning as the buyer was a Nigerian without a UK passport so he couldn't create a paypal account.

Annoyed - I sent a single email to a random end user saying..

'I have a domain name for sale that you may be interested in...

I own xxxxx.co.uk - x,xxxx people in the UK search for this term per month and having the exact keyword match domain will help you significantly in getting to the top of google for this term.

I'm offering this domain for the very low price of £300 - similardomain.co.uk recently sold for over £750 and this domain had fewer people searching google for that keyphrase.

If you're interested then please get back to me as I'm going to list it for sale on the domain selling site Sedo shortly for £1000.'

He bought it and has just paid the £300 asking price. All done and dusted in 2 hours.

All smiles here....

Very good - nice to see someone is having some luck.

Sweeet :)

Nice intro email, nice and short. I may use it if thats ok?

Reading your title I thought you were going to admit to being a bot :p

Well done mate, imagine if it was that simple all the time

Nice one, its great to hear positive things like this to encourage us all to make the extra effort to contact end users.

I just used the subject 'Domain name' - I think I just got lucky.

Of course feel free to use / tweak / post successes.

@ PoshTiger:

All's well that ends well! Nice sale in the end!. First buyer could have paid you through http://Naijapay.co.uk . They help with 'Nigeria to UK' payments!

Nice one!

End-users are the way to go, noticed that a few times.

Prices are good and you (or at least thats what I do) build up a good relationship with the person and get freebies such as rugby tickets :d

Had something very similar happen last month. I also sold a domain on DL for low £xxx, numpty winning bidder never made any contact which left me frustrated and annoyed. Seriously though, i do hate these kind of timewasters that bid on something and don't follow through, why waste everyone's time ruining my sale and denying the genuine bidders a chance to purchase.

However, thankfully 2 weeks afterwards i receive an email response out of the blue from an end user that i had contacted a while before i put the domain on DL, and my asking price in my email was mid £xxx so in the end i was just as well numpty bidder never got back to me!

Nice work, I also may use that format for a couple endusers that would be perfect for the domain. States theres a limited time offer without coming across to spammy.

:t for the useful email text. I have a few versions I use to approach end users. Will adapt yours and give it a try too.

I've had mixed results in the past with emailing people.

Have sent out dozens of emails and got no replies, then other days sent out a couple and made a sale (although I've only ever tried it in fits and starts).

It clearly partly comes down to whether you get the right person and whether they understand the perceived value of an EMD.

But I have wondered whether some will sit scratching their heads or be put off because of the "what do I do once I've bought it" question, and concerns over costs of getting a website designed for it, & whether there might be more mileage in offering 2 prices - one for the domain & one for the domain with a website.

It could be a way to jack up the prices of average domains?

Well, I've had another bash at this today and have supposedly sold one for £200 - regd about a week ago.

Emailed various about 5 domains, this is a company, will see if they end up paying!
