I'm thinking about setting up a blog all about internet marketing including a few things about SEO, setting up sites and so on.

The only thing that's putting me off is that I have a feeling that there are already too many sites that do this sort of thing(maybe there's not?), so is it worth it?

One of the main reasons why I'm thinking about doing this is because I'm starting to get tired of "normal" micro niche type of sites. Plus I think I've more of an interest in this sort of thing rather than something random so it might be easier for me to keep the site updated regularly.

That's true, I should have a few things that would help newbies out. There's probably no money in it or anything, but I just feel like trying something new out.

Even you can offer some SEO services for your visitors….and if you get order(s) you can outsource them as well….(just an idea)….

That's true, I should have a few things that would help newbies out. There's probably no money in it or anything, but I just feel like trying something new out.

Must be some money in it otherwise there wouldn't be so many blogs around. If you could offer solutions to common problems then that might help. You'll make money from selling off internet tools that help people.

Interesting, it's a topic I'm thinking of putting more effort into myself soon. There's definitely still room in the "market" even though it's very crowded - you just have to find a new/different angle on things.

I could read those kinds of things all day. In terms of niche, I think being from the UK is enough at this point - plenty of Acorners seem to have blogs, but I've never come across any that are regularly updated. Outside of Acorn, not many internet marketing blogs mention much about domain names, unless it's to push an affiliate link.

On that note, monetisation. I've seen paid apps, software, affiliate links etc. being used both within posts and mailing lists. There's one which is quite a good idea (I think it's nichesitegold or something?) - they send out a regular email listing a few URLs they'd buy for Adsense sites and one they wouldn't, with reasons why. For some reason all the domains cost $50 (not sure why that is exactly because I've never investigated, perhaps it's their own domains) but I quite like the idea, I think it has potential to be used in a few different ways.

Have to try come up with a decent enough domain for this, not sure whether I should make it a personal type of blog or not though. Eg. Using "I think" etc.

It depends on whether you want to create a 'brand' based around you or an entity (perhaps linked to your writing business if you went down that route). If you're intending to monetise like most IMmers, a personal brand seems to work better for them. On the other hand, a business not specifically based around you is likely to be easier to sell or expand into a joint/group project later on.

Would stick to 'we'/'you' and offer advice where possible rather than a description of what you've done or plan to do.

Cheers thanks for the info. Never really thought about selling on in the future, that'd be hard to do if it was a personal type of site.

Another thing that I've to think of is whether I should get a .co.uk or just a .com/net etc. I'd say most of the articles will be useful for everyone, not just in the UK so probably won't use a .co.uk

A few sites i've used are FreshDrop.net and ExpiredDomains.net (none of which I have any connection to btw) - just pointing them out in the hope that they may help the OP and other members which may not know where to start when looking for domains outside of their usual .UK space

Yeah, I spent a bit of time trying to find any decent domains today but didn't find anything. I'm not even talking about .coms either, .nets/orgs were all gone too.

Think I've decided on what I'm going to do now anyway

Told myself that I wouldn't post here again for a while, but just noticed that Ann Smarty (runs My Blog Guest) posted a comment on my review of My Blog Guest as well as tweeting it to her 25,000 followers Didn't expect that during the first few days of setting up the site.
