If anyone wants to flog there ipad 1 after they get the ipad 2 to me for cheap for my travels then let me know

No Flash. No increase in screen resolution. Limited export capability. The Xoom will be making hay while Apple's sun shines (dimly) so I expect Apple to get its finger out and make the iPad 3 competitive.

All my serious kit is Apple but I won't be an iPad 2 mug

They no doubt hold back on these features intentionally, so that they can bring out new and improved versions every year. It's quite amazing the frequency with which 'must have' products are deemed old hat in no time at all. I think I'll hold out for the iPad 5.4 Ultra Mega Edition.

As for some of the comments about cloud computing, I don't think it's something that appeals to everyone, but services like Dropbox are really useful.

Not so much a converse argument as the underlying reason for the lack of Flash. Whichever way you look at it, Flash isn't coming to an iPad any time soon. And when Flash is so widely used on the Web, I think you are right in not upgrading to the iPad 2.
