.... or does everyone struggle with domain-excitement. You probably recognise the symptoms - after searching laboriously for what seems like 7 fruitless hours on 123 reg, you finally come across a domain that's free to reg. Now, it represents no value, you can't really see how to monetise it and have no idea of how to improve it's commercial value - but you buy it nevertheless.

An alternative and slightly more expensive version of this dreadfull affliction seems to be infect through spending too much time on this site. You see a domain for sale, it's cheap, it's made up of two non-hyphenated words that seem to have a vague connection and for no obvious reason you ... 'I'm in!'

If anyone else suffers from this disease maybe they could let me know a cure as I'm suffering badly and it's costing me a fortune;)

If you want to save time - and time is money - just call by at Acorn and pick up some of the cheap goodies on sale here more than several times a week.

You should restrict buying another domain until you have either successfully developed one or sold one on. It is very easy to accummulate domains, not so easy to develop or sell them.

Why give yourself stress trawling over at 123, etc? There are plenty of good quality domains for sale here, the sellers have already gone to the trouble of filtering the best. In the long run you'll save money and time.

There's a been a few of threads in the past and yes buy some and sell some and then buy some more

I am trying this by having a quota for each month, I already use up July, And have a growing list of names that I am thinking of buying.

This seems to work because when the next month comes I have to prioritise, which one to buy so it forces you to rethink the need for a particular domain.

Well, I'm sure you know all this, but some of the thinks I think about is.....

1. Before I buy think about why its worth more than reg fee.
2. Think about how I might monetise it, or someone else would monetise it.
3. Sometimes a domain might not have 'commercial value' but may be valuable to someone - a forum domain perhaps - so I take that into account too.

A domain has to meet about 10 of my criteria before I buy, nowadays.

But the thing is that there is very little available at reg fee, and even less worth more than reg fee. I spend a LOT of time each week searching (more than 7 hours!) and I will be lucky if I find one domain which fits my very specific criteria.

To be honest the more experienced you become the easier it becomes to be disciplined.

Yes sounds like the words of a wise person but it does feel good when you look at you portfolio and see the potential . if anyone fancy`s shared the cost of my shrinks bill or even better if you fancy there`s a domainers anonymous meeting once a week at the end of the rainbow going to bed thinking there is a valid business concept ot good search volume behind everyone one of your domain purchases then you wake up to a load of renewal costs . I love domains THE MONSTER we all think we can tame :)

I nearly did the same today, and then i thought about it.

I always get exited and reach for my bank card,

I usually try and buy domains that can add value to the sites i use for business so i have to think carfully.

just registered 2 co.uk domains and now I cant even work out what lead me to register them, its like some domain eureka moment that causes a black out, then 10 minutes later you get an email confirming the registration lol.

I registered;
bevpoint.co.uk (battery electric vehicle point)
and
evcpoint.co.uk (electric vehicle charging point)

Maybe I should remove the stored credit card details from my domain account!!!

I think my train of thought is that if electric cars become very popular in the next 2 years its only going to cost me a few pounds to renew, and if electric cars get commonly known as bev's and charging points get commonly known as evc points then I should do ok from the domains.

Am I crazy?

you can either do an even money bet or a 200 to 1 outsider, your the outsider man, the returns are greater but much less likely, and you might have to back an awful lot of them before you get a winner.
