I wonder how it will work in practical terms.

Suppose I own widgets.co.uk and want to register Widgets.uk. What proof will be needed for a registrar to allow me to register it?

Also launch date is 10 June 2014 not 14 June as stated in thread title

Noticed a Co.uk domain which I hand regged in November does not get rights to. UK using the whois provided. Interesting I presume this means anything drop caught will also not get rights.. Will check a few more examples once I can get back onto the whois checker

(looks like I misinterpreted the rule. Ignore the presumption regarding drops)

Must be because it was not registered before October cut off date and another extension already was.

If the co.uk is registered at the cut off time of 23:59 on 28th of October, then it will get the .uk domain. It doesn't matter if it was the old or new registrant. ie. Drop catches should be fine.

If the .co.uk dropped prior to cut off and another qualifying extension existed at cut-off, then it gets the rights.

it must have been free to reg on the days surrounding the cut off. you can put a recent drop in and they all go to the co.uk

It dropped on the 27th Oct and wasn't regged until 1st Nov, so at the time of the cut-off it didn't exist, therefore goes to org.uk

It's great that they've got a simple tool and a comprehensive information site up already. Means we can take advantage of the imminent arrival of .uk in marketing our names for sale, and don't have to wait until 10th of June.
