Doesn't have the traction of .co unfortunately, do you know if google will allow these to be geo-targeted?

Agree. Believe it becomes a flop.
Probably not much domestic interest either.

Regarding geo targeting. You can always use webmaster tools for geo targeting, if that is what you meant? So basically, you can set a .so domain to target .co.uk (hmm, why would anyone want that?) or a com domain to target Somalia..

But the best effect with geo targeting comes if you have use the following tactics in combination with Google Webmaster Tools:
a) Several inlinks from websites hosted in the country you want to geo target for.
b) Host the domain in the country you want geo targeting for.
c) Use the ccTLD for the same country or region as you want to target.

Landamble might be a better phrase.

As for .co having traction, its got that as much as a BMW in snow.

Still more traction than .so :)

Some domains can't be geo-targeted which is why I was asking - .co.uk always targets the UK I think.

I'm never bothering with these extensions. My experience tells me the only one making real money are the registrars. I'd rather have a .com than 10 shiny new .so's. Stay away if you want my perspective.

Anyone signing up for .what ? That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw .so

Can you give an example of a ccTLD or gTLD which can't be geo-targeted?

it's easier to tell the ones you can

all cctlds target their own country by default
so .uk uk, .ie ireland etc
if you are one of the biggest boys on block like bbc.co.uk then you're turning up on all search engines and countries anyway, even on .co.uk as theyre that big

exceptions to rule, that google alows geo targetting in webmaster tools is:
.tv
.me
.co

that's it

gtlds you can target a particular country of your choice or global:

.com
.net
.org
.info

this is in principle. a really successful site will turn up whatever extension. but life will be a whole lot easier with the country in questions tld or com

next best option .org or net, info too but hard

then if you run with something like .me, sure brandable and memorable but will be VERY hard to gain traction on the host/competitor countries extensions
ie: .de or .co.uk
very hard

as far as .so
it's a pile of sh$t
unless you are a somalian business of course
or if the bbc gets hold of o.so for their kids programme lol

Not even heard of .so!

.So what I say! LOL.

.So what next I wonder? .rubbish .wasteofmoney .letsgetonthebandwagontooandsellacrapdomainext .moneydowntoilette ?!

.shit

I'd buy dog.shit
or
bull.shit
e.shit
or
i.shit

I'll be putting a proposal to start that extension soon. When I've suckered the initial investment in, I'll move to suckering in domainers and then I'll retire to my carribean island called

island.shit
