Landrush phase for .uk short domains now open

Shame it doesnt keep going through the night, would mean .uk auctions are not limited to those who are in the uk at the moment.

or restricting those at work who sometimes can't get to a pc to bid during normal working hours :)

Did you get it Grant?

No mate, decided I didn't really need/want it enough to warrant the price. Gordon Dick (old school Nominet bod) and tagnames were amongst the other bidders so I figured the price would have gone up quite a bit higher if I'd carried on.

I'll save my pennies for the other auctions :)

Grant

Guess they are all finished now as nominet just emailed:

-------------
Thank you for taking part in the .me.uk short domain name auction process and congratulations on your winning bid(s). We are now generating invoices to send to the winning bidders and will email these to you in the next 24 hours. Please note that you then have 7 days from the date of the invoice(s) to pay.
You can pay by credit or debit card by calling our secure payment line – 01865 332348 – quoting your invoice number(s)
----------------

Wonder if any auctions will get rerun when the buyer bottles out of payment after getting carried away in the bidding.

A wise move :)

I would hope that if the winning bidder doesn't pay within the 7 days (and there shouldn't be ANY exceptions Nominet!) that it would automatically be offered to the second highest bidder at their bid price, but I suppose it could be seen as fairer to re-run the auction, providing the defaulting bidder was prohibited from bidding.

Nominet stated exactly that. 7 days to pay or auction rerun with the defaulting winner removed. Interesting if there were only 2 involved to start with!

would hope thats removed from all other auctions they were listed to participate in? and not just the one they defaulted on?

What happens if I win the auction and cannot pay, or the invoice is not paid in time?

We will not register the domain name in your name and you will not be able to take part in any further Landrush auctions. The domain name will be auctioned again with the same participants invited, but you will not be able to take part in this repeat auction.

If they had paid for some they wouldn't lose them though.

7 days is cutting it close for people paying by wire transfers.

2 and 4 are really good ones.

4 really has a nice ring to it.
Thanks, the prices some of the .me.uk's really surprised me. Time will tell whether or not there's a market for these short .me.uk names. I'm slightly skeptical right now but we'll see.

i only went in for 2 letter .me's that i'd be happy to develop rather then just hold to one day flip. also am sure that some of those would probably go low to mid x,xxx at the .co.uk and .org.uk auctions

very happy so far with my collection of 5

This is an outrage. So not only are foreigners allowed to scoop up these domains, but some have the advantage of not having to pay VAT??
