for the org.uk auction there was mainly two buyers that picked up most of the names....

This is where I don't understand the policy about not limiting the number of auctions / domains that anyone individual or company can go for. I am not suggesting one or two - but 10 - 20 or even 30 in each category would have at least allowed for a fairer mix of owners right across the cctld's offered.

I can see the "market forces" or "available to anyone" argument, but all this does is to perpetuate the control of domains through users with the most money.

This was a perfect opportunity to allow more individuals to own 'prime' domains, but Nominet chose to ignore what would have ultimately have created the fairest route for the masses (in my opinion).

That's not a dig at the owners who did mop up - congrats to you - you are also lucky to have the funds to invest in what are great domains - I just don't see why Nominet just went for the highest bid route with no limits - it's not like anyone there is able to get a bonus or anything :| !!

I wrote about it back in June I think

They could have run all the auctions at the same time, maybe with a 10 minute anti sniping clause. This way people would have focused on the names they were genuinely interested in. As nobody could manage 300+ auctions in 10 minutes.

But on the other hand Nominet did hold a consultation period, I and probably most here didn't give our views before the rules were set. So I, we have to take a small part of the blame as well.

I was highest bidder on ct @ £10 for about 5 min... it is now up to £2650 :(

although it's still 'cheap' going by other posts above

£20K for bb

wow

Makes the £1.2k for names I'm after look cheap at the moment

OK, here's a question...

eh.co.uk is at £1200 and I'm tempted to bid for it (although it's likely that my bid would be beaten) - the reason I'm interested is to make a site about Edinburgh and the surrounding area (i.e. the EH postcode area). If you are a resident of the UK, would you recognise the first 2 letters (or letter) of your postcode as being an indicator of a local site?

e.g. WV.co.uk would be Wolverhampton

Should I go for it or buy an alternative, longer one, at reg fee?
