Just thought I'd ask this publically: Is there anyone offering a catching service for the landrush stage of Nominets' release of reserved short domains? I've three .co.uk (out of 570) I'd like, so I'm trying to establish if it's realistically possible for a non-member to actually be in with a chance of getting some.

The same goes for a list of a further 1384 .org.uk & .me.uk at landrush too.

I was assuming that although landrush will be open to the public, it won't be first come first served and auctions will take place just in like the sunrise stages? Will be interesting to find out further details when they're released on the 18th though.

Reading the rules on the process, it will lead to an auction if more than 1 person applies:

Nominet said:
Following closing of the Landrush application process, Nominet shall:

• Directly award a Domain Name Registration to the Applicant if their Application was the only one relating to the relevant Domain Name which was received during Landrush; and

• Inform the Auction Provider of the Domain Names and their corresponding Applicants
if Nominet has received more than one Application for any particular Domain Name. In this case, Nominet shall award a Domain Name Registration to the Applicant who placed
the winning bid in the Auction for that Domain Name, following notification by the Auction Provider of the outcome of the Auction.

Hope that helps :)

It's inconceivable that any domains will go through un-auctioned, since everyone's surely going to paste the whole list in...

Do you remember the share sell offs of BT and the likes? A cap was put in place so if anyone asked for an excessive number of shares, they actually got none, whereas those people who kept their request to a modest number were accepted. Sounds like a good way of dealing with this.

Still won't make any difference, I don't think. I imagine that there would still be dozens (hundreds?) of applicants for each of the remaining 1-letter and 2-letter domains. After all, we're only talking about a few hundred combos tops.
