Lost data recovery

Does anyone know if it's possible to recover excel data that has been deleted?
Ie data deleted from spreadsheet then saved as same filename.
I know you can recover deleted files but not sure about overwritten.

Which OS do you have?

Windows 7 has previous versions which might help.

it's not me luckily but a friends wife has just lost the years accounts. i said to search for *.xls/xlsx and managed to find a temp file from 29th march so just missing data from then.

I believe it's windows 7. i got them to right click the file and try recover previous version but nothing came up.

Has the person cleaned their temp files?

If it's windows 7 then right click the sub-folder and click properties...

click the previous versions tab and see if there's anything there.
