Interesting to know fellow domainers opinion on this one. Due to some movements in me.uk pricing, things are looking a bit brighter for the extension. OK, so this one is a single word, product, generic, about 90K UK exacts, serious niche (cosmetics).

My own guestimate couple of months ago would have been mid to high £xx, these days I am more thinking of mid £xxx, maybe more. Anyone else?

.me.uks are not a resellers market, you really ned to find and then convince an end user to buy them off you.

Reseller value = reg fee
End user = ??? I would offer at £100 max tbh

I'd say you are being extremely optimistic, buying .me.uk's is surely more about developing them yourself rather than selling them on which could be difficult

Fully agreed, I only own the one that's in my sig link, if they do develop in price over the next few years then a country name will sell for nice money.

6 years reg fee is £21, that's all it's going to cost me to find out ?
But having stacks of them could be a waste of a few hundred quid ?

I agree with the development argument although I can see why demand and competition is and should be increasing for the really good names on lesser extensions too.

I regularly buy premium names on the lesser extensions. I may offer them for sale soon after I buy them but, knowing most wont get a decent offer, I eventually put a few hours in to build some content to monetize. After that I rarely sell them.

Personally I think competition has already started to increase for the lesser extensions from the domainers that don't rely solely on flipping names. Today, for example, I tried to catch three me/uk names and only got one of them!

Because so many co.uk names are just parked at Sedo unloved by Google (and are never likely to drop) it can be very easy to get a page 1 Google rank for a busy search term using a domain with a me/uk (or org/uk) extension.

So instead of asking yourself how much you think a me/uk domain is worth, a shrewdie will probably ask themself how much a page 1 position on Google is worth for that search term and then value a domain accordingly.

The domain flippers don't care about search engines, traffic and monetizing sites but domainers who are also affiliate marketers and webmasters do (or rather they should IMO!).

Thanks, people...

I’ll tell you what… A have only 4 or 5 .me.uk domains, all of the generic product names with high exacts like the one above (also monitors, blurayplayer and couple more). Two of them already developed into shops (I always prefer quick developing to parking) and both have already “paid back” for the hosting, reg, etc. This is the reason that I am a bit more optimistic about the extension. There were some recent end users sales that make me to sit on them for a bit longer, especially when they bring income and I am not worried about spending money on them.

Meanwhile reseller market is not interested in me.uk at this moment, I understand that, but end user market might become more active, especially with generics available at much lover prices but still with good ranking perspective.

This is why I would value the domain myself to the end user at about £250 (starting price) which might increase in 1-2 year time (even considerably). OK, they pay for themselves anyway, so why should I be worried. ;)

@WestHamFan: I’ve started to type then got distracted and finished later so haven’t seen your reply. But I think we are talking about the same thing here.

Unfortunately I think there is a lot of people kidding themselves on that the likes of .me.uk have real commercial value.

The fact that you have made any money from the names is due to development - not the domain extension. You could apply the same logic to any domain name whatsoever.

I think everyone is right in saying there is decent development potential with this name. That means that good webmasters may be interested in buying it off you. I think the .me.uk works nicely with the make up sector as it adds a personal touch. Cosmetics is a growth online industry. Web markets are expanding. The tech markets like computers and broadband had the early start, but now that everyone is using the internet, and young people especially, markets like make up become more interesting.

There are plenty of good affiliate programmes for cosmetics. I own make-up.org.uk for this reason. L'Oreal owns the equivalent .co.uk.

If you look on YouTube, you will find lots of make-up tip videos. This is a growth market.

Fair value now is probably around £80, but it's only going to increase.

Rgds

Yes, but this is how we are creating the reseller market ;) By ranking websites high the barebone value of me.uk is also going up.

Again I think you're missing the point. In your example, it's the ranking website that holds the value - and that could be achieved by using any domain name extension you care to mention.

It's only my opinion, but those talking up the value of .me.uk domain names are those that hold them and want to believe they are investing in something worthwhile. I just don't see it myself.

When I was doing research before buying my first .me.uk domain, I found that Facebook redirects a .me.uk domain straight to their homepage. I can't remember what domain it was but I remember it was a general career name .me.uk, like lawyer.me.uk or something but not that. I'll try and find it out what it was again. And the company footprint.co.uk also redirect a few .me.uks to their main site. So organisations must be seeing some sort of marketing value in these extensions otherwise they wouldn't use them.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but do you really think that anyone at Facebook went to the trouble of registering a me.uk to drive more traffic to its homepage?

Maybe that's one reason why they regged it. Another maybe that they might see the value of that particular domain they have redirected to their site in the future and flog it to someone at a nice profit years down the line when they have no use for it any longer.

Are we talking about the same Facebook? The site valued at $11.5 billion?

As diablo states, me.uk's don't have any commercial value. I cannot see anyone selling one to a business because of the rules but they do have reseller value to other domainers.

Slap a simple 2 page site on that name and I bet you will pop up on page 1 of Yahoo. Put some feeds/adsense in there and you will not want to sell as it brings you £xx-£xxx per year in rev.

Yahoo really like me.uk's. I have a lot of them and they do well. Even if you point them to another server and the only thing you can change is the first sentence in the meta tags title.

Google UK exacts 60,500

As I said in another thread. nothing wrong with me.uk's :D

I am still amazed by some of the old school on here that hate org.uk's with a passion, never mind me.uks. In reselling terms, you're right, they are not worth sh*t commercially. In income terms, you guys have missed the boat.

...

It's already on. I rarely keep domains bare or parked. And you know what, this high ranking is building the reseller market. That is what I think anyway.

I also regged a generic .me.uk from a very competitive niche today. And I am going to put a site on it, spare couple of PR4-PR5 links form my other sites and bring it on the top not only Yahoo but big G. This is where the value shows itself.

If there is no reseller market for me.uk's, then there is always a website market at 18 months x revenue ;)
