I just bought a name that was registered with 123 reg. I've never used these guys before but just a cursory glance of this particular part of the forum tells me that it may be a good idea to move well away from them (especially seeing as they have "The Hoff" on their homepage) ;-)

Would like to move it to UKREG (fasthosts) where I already have an account and I'm happy with the service. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Advice on: How to move away from 123 reg and get the domain assigned to fasthosts. Do 123 reg charge for this, what is the procedure etc?

I wanted advice as having read about 123 reg here and how they treat their actual customers I was intrigued as to how (in)efficiently they would deal with people leaving them.

I am considering just doing the transfer through nominet to save on the hassle unless anyone can tell me another painless way through 123 reg.

Click on the domain name, then click on 'change-tag'

Free
Quick
Painless.

Ive never had a problem with 123 however, so I wont be moving any of mine.

I don't have a 123 reg account, the previous owner have it in one.

Would be easiest for me to create an account and for him to push it to mine?

123

Hi,
yeah just open a free 123 account & he can push free.
I've knocked them in past & have had many problems with them.
However, as afar as i'm concerned they are good as gold now & have no problems with them .
I just transferred in free 300+ domains to them, from uk2.
UK2 are the worst registrars in the world, will run a thread on how bad soon, just can't be bothered.
All in all, as uk registrars go, i like 123.
cheers, Pred

I've had my problems with uk2, since the new guy has come in they are alot better... They even offered to sponsor a site I have :D

uk2

Hi Olebean,
check your uk2 account. if you have 'pushed' using their account system they are still in yours too.
i can log into domains that i've tag changed & moved away!
if you sell a domain on uk2 the new owner can view your old invoices!
i have sent 20 emails to uk2 highlighting their problems, they've done zip. Frankly their system is in chaos.
Been with them years, but gone pearshaped last month or two. Drastic action transferred 300 domains out to 123.
Be warned DO NOT use uk2. They are so bad i won't even sell any domains i still have at uk2 'cos it's not safe for the buyer yet.
I'm writing to their md this week & OFT.
Spoke to Nominet about them, but apparently they can't do anything.

Ive not had that issue, ive had it were it took 2 months to try and renew.... Then they told me the domain wasn't mine and I should look for another....

Didn't mean for the thread to take this track ;-)

I have one domain with UK2 that I've been trying to move away for years.....

Anyway, I've just got Nominet to send a forced TAG request change in the end to 123 reg. Ok, so it's cost me a tenner plus VAT but to be frank I just can't be arsed with messing around. I'm sure 123 reg are great/rubbish (delete as appropriate) but I just don't trust anyone to do a good job when they are losing a customer.

bulk

yes, uk2 try & charge 15 notes each transfer. ignore.
nominet do a bulk tag change service, no limit, £17.50
they are highly efficient it has to be said. (Nominet) :-D
