According to the bbc today it's now on it's way as part of a 3 month consultaion according to Eleanor Bradley at Nominet.

Firt I've heard of any official statement. As a registrar I've had diddly squat from Nominet regarding this, just the .uk co-marketing announcement last week, which was about promoting .uk as a whole.

Have I missed something?

UPD: Finally received the non-announce email!

So I see. Nice of them to involve their registrars!! Or not as the case may be.

Seems the proposal is that they will be geo-restricted. I hope as well if they are made available that they are not transferable i.e. not available for resale. If they do appear - and I really think it would be a mistake and a massive dilution of the .uk brand - then they should almost be like the pre-nominet domains where some kind of verification is required.

If at all possible, it would be best to keep comments on the thread linked in post 2 of this one, otherwise the info's going to get quickly fragmented (or move the stuff from there to here).

So when can we expect to see all those greedy domainers flapping to dump the large portfolios they could have sold for 10x more in the last 5 years than they could ever get now.. It's gunna be a bloodbath..
