Newbie: How To Start Buying Domains

Hello guys,

I am new to domaining in the .co.uk/uk niche and I need advice on how to buy domains.

I have spent alot of time reading acornforum posts but I still cant understand how to buy a .co.uk/uk domain.

Can these domains be transferred to godaddy or are there special registrars I need to signup to .

For your choice of registrar, any registrar that sells .UK domains should be able to accept a transfer in.

I don't have a godaddy account, but suspect there will be an option to transfer in a .UK name in their control panel. If in doubt ask them.

Choose a UK host / registrar with the cheapest renewal price
If you're going to have more than about 600 domains become a Nominet Registrar for cost advantage
Buy on here and Domainlore (monitor both every day for new sales)
Buy low... sell high!
Have a target market in mind for your domains and email / call them when you have something for them
Choose domains that you could develop as well as sell
Invest in higher priced domains with more profit per unit to keep renewal prices as a lower % of costs
Ask the forum for opinions on price or for advice... they're really very good here... but expect harshness... and don't let it put you off
Although 'keyword' domains are a bit 'last year', they still have a market. The trend today is 'brandable' .. but it's a lot to do with Google and it's way of ranking a domain name.
For the transfer of domains.. it's done through Nominet.. easy process.. buy from a trusted source... most big hosts are .co.uk registrars.. GoDaddy is just one of many.
