Hi, I've seen a few posts where people are selling domains starting at £10 with a free transfer.

Is it still £10+vat to transfer a domain name?

Just wondering if I missed something to make a free transfer possible

cheers Mally

If you have your own TAG, you can click the transfer button under the domain manager and update the whois details that way, then release the domain to the buyers chosen tag.

Not all transfers can be free though, for example you need at least 20 names on your tag in your name to be able to do a free transfer.

This, but also you have to have a self managed tag

If you change your membership to self-managed for your tag, or are accredited channel partner, you can change the registrant details online. Registrar release then via automaton/epp.

I've got normal channel partner for client tag & self-managed for portfolio. Works fine if a bit laborious.

Nominet simply can't bring it on themselves to get rid of this outrageous charge.

Not true, works with one domain registered to tag. :)

It doesnt, ive had this problem my self!

"You may register a small number of domains for third parties. If you register any domain names to third parties this shall be no more than the lower of:
50 or 5% of the total domains registered under your Self-Managed tag"

Not the case, I have only one allocated domain on my tag at all times for the benefit of EPP, and I've been able to transfer domains away without any issues. The limits are correct, but they are not automatically enforced, but manually checked by Nominet staff if you exceed the limit. If you've tried to transfer a domain and it hasn't let you, make sure you add the registrants name into your 'third party' section before and then remove once transferred/moved away. Works for me :)

I just do a Create Account, follow that with a transfer to the newly created account and then a release, 3 quick EPP commands back to back and the domain is transferred, very simple and efficient process, no messing about with adding 3rd party names to the account. This is on a self managed tag. Works just the same via Automaton (just takes longer to process than EPP)

Can a free name change/ tag change be done via Nominet's online domain manager dashboard?

Registrant change yes, registrar change no... they'll still charge for that unless you use the registrar resources (automaton/epp)

Yes I meant the online dashboard when you log in at https://secure.nominet.org.uk/

You can detag a domain via the online dashboard, can't you? I'm sure I've done that before. So I was wondering if with the self managed tag (which I am considering applying for), you could alter the registrant name via the online dashboard too, thereby enabling a free transfer when selling a domain without having to piss about with the EPP or Automaton. So looks like you can then.

Yes, on a self managed tag there's a button at the top of the page called "transfer", click that, enter the domain for transfer, enter the new registrants details and complete the transfer, then there's another button at the top of the page called, "release", use that to enter the new TAG for the tag change.
