At our AGM, our CEO announced that it was our intent to move Nominet to a .uk URL. On 11 August, www.nominet.org.uk will redirect to www.nominet.uk which will become our primary domain from here onwards.

We believe that this new address is a more fitting home for a business like Nominet and conveys the breadth of what we do. From running the world-class UK registry to supporting our efforts to create and develop related products and services, such as turing. We remain committed to delivering public benefit and will of course retain our .org.uk as part of our domain product portfolio. The Nominet Trust will stay on its .org.uk domain which is best suited for charitable organisations.

There will be no impact on registrar systems as a result of this change. All incoming links to nominet.org.uk will be forwarded to the new .uk address and this will not affect the accessibility of Nominet's online presence to registrars, members or registrants.

Similarly, we will not be changing the domain suffix for any of our other sites at this time including all subdomains such as secure.nominet.org.uk, registrars.nominet.org.uk and so on. In the autumn, we will also be releasing a new Nominet website to coincide with the refresh of our brand identity. Further market testing and discussion with some members will continue over the summer.

More money going to be wasted on another brand identity refresh. Jobs for the boys, who cares. Domainers sure don't and Nominet don't have a profile with the public. However, nominet.uk is a fair improvement on nominet.org.uk and since they forced the entire UK domain space to deal with their decision to introduce .UK they can at least show willing!
