Hello All,

I've recently purchased a domain name, and received the Nominet transfer link.
I have come to the part of choose a registrar? and I'm unsure what to do. Obviously I'm thinking of selecting an registrar I have an account with but I thought id best check to make sure I'm doing it right.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
George

Hi George

If you're happy with your existing registrar in terms of price and service then choose them. Once you've agreed to the Nominet transfer and the domain is transferred into your name you'll need to go to your registrar and transfer the domain into your existing account. This is a fairly simple process with most registrars.

Hope that helps

Good advice, Nigel.

BTW, it's never happened to me, but since we're on the topic... what happens if you retag the name to registrar X then someone else adds it to registrar X's control panel before you do?

Before I got my own TAG this used to happen to me a lot with 123-reg. Not quite the same scenario as what happened to me was a catch was still in previous owners 123-reg account (just because domain expired doesn't automatically remove it). It's just a case of raising a support ticket and they verify ownership and then move across. Should be the same process in your scenario as whois is the proof of ownership.

Same thing happens with parking companies and an ownership review sorts it out.

Who would you guys recommend in terms of price and control panel? I've tried a few, but I'm up for suggestions.

(Sorry I'm new at the whole domaining business)

No personal experience but heard good things about domainmonster

If you are serious about the business, then I'd suggest joining Nominet and get your own TAG, you then have full control and are not reliant on a 3rd party. Setup is only the cost a handful of half decent names.
