Just noticed this whille looking in my online account Nominet Forums

anyone any ideas on when its live etc as i dont recall seeing it before.

Been there about 4-5 months as far as I know, apparently mods and admins, who controls what posts etc is causing issues.

So just on hold at minute

There maybe other reasons but those are the ones I am aware of.

Because people either turn NomSteer on or turn it off because they get bombarded with as they see it "Junk".

A forum would enable people to quickly glance at the subjects they are interested in and want to post to and contribute.

So it will get more people interested imo, which can only be good.

The entire mailing list vs. forum debate

Personally, as I've always said, I prefer mailing lists, but there are reasons why a forum would work better for some people

From what I recall they managed to combine the two, so that you can, in theory, keep getting the emails if you want to ...

Of course there's no ETA anymore as to when it will actually launch

The last update I got (earlier this week) said that it was now nearly ready and heading for internal testing. After that the PAB are be testing it for their mailing lists. Aftet that it will be rolled out.

Obviously no timescales on that, but it's certainly moving on now having stalled for a while.

For some reason when I first became a member, I subscribed under "spamATgreywing-co-uk"

I forgot all about it and couldn't post or unsubscribe, because that email address comes to me via a few other email addresses it was impossible to track down.

It was like 5 months of torture

Mine come off a lot of proxies Michelle, I set it up so around 50 emails from different sites come to one email box. So the original email address that Nominet sent out to was buried with everyone else, plus there were a few others with @blueyonder addresses which I use so that just confused the matter further

The thing that solved it was Nominet sending out the password reminders, I must admit that was a decent help.

Just maybe if they are going to keep the lists the same, I wonder if a quick couple of bullet points or something would help new members like me.

1) You can only pot to the list from your subscribed email address

2) Change the recipients email address to lists@nomsteer

I must have pee'd some poor chap off by emailing them personally over and over instead of the list

But no big issues, If I really wanted to post that badly and it was a massive issue I could have just phone up Nominet for help. No one to blame but myself for that one.
