Just had this conversation with a seller of a .com - was I rude?

-------------------------------------
Hi,

Bit of a shot in the dark this but I see you're not really using DomainName.com - are you interested in selling?

thanks,

Tony

-------------------------------------
Seller: How much?
-------------------------------------
Wow, that was fast. $1,000 paypal transfer?

thanks,

Tony
-------------------------------------
Seller: Sorry I think we are playing in different ball parks. Thanks for the offer though.

<name>
-------------------------------------
Hi <name>,

I really like to know what ballpark you’re playing in – I might get promoted soon..

Thanks,

Tony
-------------------------------------
Seller: We have 100’s of thousands invested in the brand.
-------------------------------------

OK, Doesn't look like this will go anywhere.

You've invested $xxx, xxx in a non-existent brand and that somehow dictates the value of the domain?

I don't get it.

Tony

-------------------------------------
Seller: Wow..you are very rude!
-------------------------------------

If you read my email, I’m not being rude at all – just to the point.

I can’t see any mention of a specific <domainname> brand on the internet anywhere and even if I did – how that translates to the value of a domain name, I also fail to see.

Based on your initial reply which was simply ‘how much?’ I thought I would be able to be direct and to the point with you but it appears I have now hurt your feelings.

My sincerest apologies,

Tony

Yeah, I'm not very good at negotiations so I'll take that on board for the future - thanks.

I knew all was lost by the last email so that one was purely for my own satisfaction.

Sounds as if they use dumb value calculator or DVC industry standard there is a formula things like living costs to date, any mortgage , loans finance cost of future holidays, new cars etc then produces a figure based on those needs, wants etc. is has zero before any offers then only produces 100.000 or millions

There is also a buyers one that deducts the same too :)
