Ok - gonna shoot this one out there...

One thing I have noticed is when running checks on the amount of time it takes for a check > response.

2 checks (roughly) before the domain drops, it takes 1-2ms longer for the response to come back.

It does sometimes take a little longer, but I've noticed this 3 times now.

I'm actually a networks guy at heart so I'm running wireshark traces at the moment to see exactly what is going on, but theoretically if there is a marker, you could blast your 1,000 checks as soon as you spot it and get your create commands in early.

This is the area I'm working on and I will post back findings as soon as I have any.

You may well be onto something. After all, Nominet's system has to do "something" different when a name becomes available, i.e. execute a different bit of code. And doing "something" in the setup to that process may take more/less time than doing "nothing" (which is presumably what's happening on their back end for names that don't drop)

If the theory of going over the quota the exact second an domain is droping is right how long would the ban be would you get a 24 hour ban instantly.
Its strange he only seems to get one premium the days when more than one drops.

Nah, seen him catch more than one decent one in one day recently. Just assume it's one at a time and some days the second in line drops first.

I am not going to name names (so dont ask me to), but my husband who is a former member of this forum is friends with a domainer who for quite some time had amazing success catching more or less everything.

While i am sure a lot of it was down to his hard work with his system, he had figured out a drop pattern and a way making sure he was first in.

I don't class this as cheating, i think anyone who figures out something like this out is a genius and good luck to them. Its one of those situations get it why the going is good as nominet will likely shut the door very soon.

PS, i am in no way saying this is what is happening now with regards to this post, simple adding to the discussion on what i know from past experience many years ago.
