to me this is the biggest danger to online sales and ecommerce

Explain how it might be a danger to UK based affiliates? Or indeed UK based e-commerce sites.

That's just yank stuff, it's like a local VAT rate and some local authorities aren't happy that other areas are getting their sales tax.

Doesn't affect us on this side of the pond.

very simple if your selling goods from affaliate companys based overseas then sooner or later you will be liable for the vat and other tax revenue that is due.

It might not happen for a couple of years but if I was the goverment I would be licensing every ecommerce site in the UK.

This would be to make sure the reveue from that site payed its taxes. just now there is no real revenue stream from local goverment to get money owed to it by websites outside uk but taking orders from within the UK.

in other words a company based in the USA with a ecommerce site selling to a uk market does not pay uk taxes.

This will be stopped its just a matter of time all you people doing affailate sites that are liked to usa or other sites outside the Uk will also one day be paying taxes for the revenue that is due.

It's called import tax mate, it's been going on for years. All the yanks are saying is that there should be a type of import tax from state to state as well as country to country.

Only way it would affect us is if Scotland, Wales or N Ireland decided to tax English websites and goods or vica versa.

Can't see anything to suggest that would happen.
