As for being clever enough, it's not as hard as you may think. The most important elements are;
1. a group of people who believe that they are acting for some greater good (we know you can find people like that - suicide bombers; the ones who built the gas chambers at Auschwitz, etc);
2. control of the media.

Now, you don't need to list anything, but surely, if the basis for your belief cannot be verified, you must question why you believe what you do.

Naturally there are 'bad' people, but these are only bad from our perspective due to misguided beliefs - they believed in their minds they were doing the RIGHT thing. I don't think anyone is naturally evil, although be it through environment or mental effect they do evil things. Even bin laden was just trying to do his gods will (the basis for the majority of wars, crusades etc)

I don't believe everything the media say, and I doubt anyone does - they contradict themselves and each other constantly. However I am much further from believing that the media + those in power are poisoning us from planes, keeping aliens from us, and all the other theories there are.

Looking at that building 7 video, sure there could be explosions, or the foundations could have been damaged in the corner where the explosions appear to ripple through the building.

But not all people who do apparantly bad things believe they are doing the right thing. There are people out there who know they are not doing the right thing, and who go out of their way to harm others and either get a kick out of it or just don't care.

I believe those are just mentally instable people who were handicapped from birth, either that or their environment has created that attitude.

Either way, I dont believe politicians are killing off thousands of their fellow countrymen and humans, and keeping it all from us without even a single leak etc.
