Hi - as a domainer I do like to keep a keen eye on sales

Recently I’ve notice some crazy sales figures at DL and UKB.

.org.uk going for five figures, as an example

What’s going on?

SEO Domains i would guess, people buying for the backlinks and age.

I’ve been looking closely, most are not even half decent SEO domains. Plus far better out there available and cheaper.

The prices they’re achieving are bonkers

Smells off

Have a look at recent sales here - https://ukbackorder.uk/

Some incredible prices...however, I'm seeing a lot of solid aged & SEO domains being used for AI-generated and affiliate content.

But then I found one domain that was bought for £11k recently - "gamblingaddiction.org.uk". It's a good domain but then static content with no monetisation - I'm not sure what their plans are for this.

Off-topic, having tried to find domain names which were free to register, there is very little about. I wonder if prices are finally reflecting the scarcity of domains with good names and history.

It's a rebuild of the original site. Once it gets picked up by google and looks healthy I suspect they'll do something with it.

You're probably right, I only followed this one as I had my money on someone turning it into a gambling site! :D

There's a very good chance that all of these recent high end sales will be turned into gambling sites. That's why they're going for so much money.

I think if you do a little research on sales of half decent SEO names from mid Dec 24 onwards you will see they are ending up either as rebuild of the original site or a particular flavour of gambling site. At the moment I am net seller of my SEO names as like everyone else - have been suprised with how the market has rapidly changed.

They're not premium domain names, as above, they're mostly run of the mill domains that have, in most cases, huge back link profiles.

... are these 3-5 large buyers? .. UK-based? .. has anyone done the research how these names get used? .. where they redirect to?

@Helmuts, no idea who the buyers are, and I haven't bothered looking at what has been put on any of the domains.

@Johnp above says that they're either rebuilding the original sites on them, presumably using Archive.org for that, or being made in to gambling sites.

Thanks for your perspective. We agree that many domains with strong backlink profiles can still hold significant value even if they're not "premium" by traditional standards. It's a great reminder that domain worth isn't just about the name but also the SEO history and potential.
