Hi

I have an url (xn--9a.com) that is re-directed to another name. When the user enters xn--9a.com, however, I want the other (re-directed to) domain to show in the Browser History List* and not xn--9a.com.

(*The Browser History List is the drop-down box of 25 or so recently visited url's).

So to recap, I am looking for the 're-directed to' url to be shown in the BHL record and not xn--9a.com. Either that, or no url is to be recorded/shown at all.

If you can help, please get in touch with me here or at: [email protected]

Regards,

hi

just to get my head arounf this .. u got an idn domain - xn--9a.com that if user types in £.com in IE 7 it resolve to any url u want, and at the moment it resolves to http://www.poundsymbol.com//:confused:

But when I look in my history now I see Welcome to £.com - the pounds home on the net is that problem?

Also, would that many people be typing in xn--9a.com.

There propbably is a simple way to remove urls/entry form users history using javascript, but to replace it with another url might not be possilbe...

Probably possible in IE6/7 with spyware, but that won't help with firefox and other browsers. At the end of the day it is up to the browser what it stores in history.

Hi guys,

Thanks for replying.

Yes, xn--9a.com is an IDN and it is being transferred to another name... I would like xn--9a.com removed from the History List 'though so it either shows the 'redirected to' url or nothing at all.

If anyone can help me on this I am happy to pay.

The best way to reach me is at: [email protected].

Best regards,

I think more like a 301. But again it is up to the browser what it does once it gets a 301.

Looks like 303 is good.

A 303 redirect, on the other hand, 'seamlessly' tells the client browser
that it should be using the new URI to show the user what's happening.
In all recent browsers that I've tested (Opera, Safari, Gecko, and IE >=
5) this is exactly what happens - the new URI is shown in the Location
bar, going back/forward in history goes to the new URI, and reloading
does another GET of the new URI. The original, probably POSTED URI is
no longer visible or seen, which is IMO almost always what you want when
you're doing a dynamic redirect.

There is a redirect test at Redirect Software Test
I just tested 301 and 303 redirects using this site, neither achieve the required in my browser (Camino 1.1.2006120322)

mine neither . . . Mozilla

301, 302, 303 none of them work.

So much for that then! well tested.

It also stores the url in the location bar (autocomplete).

FWIW the back button works as you'd want it to - i.e. bypassing the redirect.

Same with Camino (no real surprise as it uses the same engine as Mozilla/Firefox).
