If a house gets repossessed, Is there a way to find who the outstanding mortgage is with ?

Example scenario :

House gets repossessed and has £150k owing on it. The mortgage company gets an estate agent to list it and put it on the market for the going rate etc.

Is there a way to bypass the estate agent by finding out who the mortgage company is and appraoching them direct ?

If you do a search at the land registry you should be able to see the record of the mortgage company's charge on the property and this will tell you who they are.

I think what he wants is to offer the mortgage company directly just the outstanding debt for the house, i.e. £150K rather than pay what an estate agent might think the house is worth or waiting for it to go to auction and paying probably a bit more.

It's not allowed mate, the mortgage company has a requirement to get the best possibile price for a property. This means taking it to auction if not sold within a specific amount of time after repossesion.

Otherwise dodgy mortage companies (employees) would be selling properties to themselves or a closely related company for peanuts.

Not it was not something that I was planning on doing, but it appears it was something that happened on a property that I recently purchased, and as they didn't win the house they are now peeved.
