I'm not his biggest fan but you've got to love that he can stand in front of Hollywood and laugh at them.

It was kinda barbed, but I didn't think he went as far as people are saying. Maybe they are just a bit too precious :). He made the show more entertaining that it would've been!

To be honest, the bits that I saw weren't that funny, I think he cheapened himself a little.

What did they expect when they booked him? maybe that was the whole point...

Well they booked a sedate and slightly overawed Rick last year - and they thought hey we're safe, get him again -

Then remembering his roots he thought - Hey I've done this gig before. - they already know me. - he delivered

He's an arrogant pr*ck, fame has well and truly gone to his head, the office/extras were great. His last two stand up dvds have been self indulgent drivel.

Haven't seen his last two stand up vids so cant comment on those, but thought above was pretty damn funny. Hollywood is ripe for the p**s taking. It was way better than the usual sycophantic back slapping and tears with everyone taking themselves so seriously. I doubt a yank would have the stomach to go anywhere near that kind of material. Anyone taking the piss out of Scientology and it's poster boy gets a big thumbs up from me.

The celebs who did seem to like gervais' performance (Robert De Niro, Alec Balwin) seem to be those who have a decent sense of themselves outside of the Hollywood bubble.

If Gervais offends you then you really should get out more... he is sending himself up most of the time, just a very clever comedian. (with lots of awards that he is not afraid of reminding you of, just like Billy Connolly is not afraid of reminding you how much money he has) I think the reason is the same, they are both embarrassed by the fame and wealth so parody it.

I'm not a huge fan of Ricky Gervais's standup although I loved the Office and the Podcasts he did with SM and CP.

Aside from some news channels and the hollywood elite, not many people seem to be annoyed. I do agree with some of the comments about Ricky Gervais not being all that likeable nowadays, but I don't see this incident damaging his popularity at all, quite the opposite in fact.

What probably stung most was when he referred to the bribes. But That's Entertainment! Anyway, he probably doesn't care the least whether he is invited back. He got great publicity and probably quite a few bucks for the next few months and then he'll just continue on. I prefer the comedians of old, who I thought had far better writers. What's the big deal about putting people down for a few laughs. Dice Clay use to do that all the time and is quite forgettable.
