Dear Members,

We have added a News Feed bot feature.

This will query popular news sites and automatically post any domain related news items into the relevant forum at scheduled intervals throughout each day.

Each new post will display this RSS icon
rss.png
and set a user called "RSS" so that you can easily identify that its is a bot post and not admin or someone else.

I hope this keeps you all up to date with domain news from around the world.

If anyone has any additional RSS News Feed suggestions, please let us know.

A great feature - just wondering how this is done. Is it a feature unique to vBulletin or does it work on other board software?

Thanks
Stephen.

The problem is that the big news stories get duplicated many times in slightly different guises from different sources, and it looks like it will flood the "new posts" view and bury the "real" posts... so while it's a nice idea in principle, the implementation has a few hiccups.

I see what you mean Edwin, I have reduced the RSS feeds to one source, to see if that helps, I am hoping one site doesn't produce the same news over and over. I will monitor the forum for obvious dupes and remove them.

Interesting that some sites say sex.com sold for $12m others say $14m

I suppose if you monitor the board regularly enough you could always delete the duplicated posts - I have implemented something similar on my music board so that is what I intend to do for the time being.

Importing RSS feeds into a board is actually a feature of the board software I use but I wasn't aware of it until I saw it on your board!

Cheers
Stephen.
