Sales slump in the UK

Following reports of a major slow down in sales in the US (yanks obsessed with LLLL.coms at present!), it appears that UK sales are going the same way. The question is, "Are resellers trying to charge too much to end users, thus selling less, and therefore buying less on the secondary market?"

Sell 1 for 200 or 10 for 35 ?

Thoughts?

i think you're right, there does seem to be a little slow down, perhaps a tightening of the belt for a few..

I think that maybe 'here' in general sellers are finding they are not getting the prices they were getting 6 months ago for your 'average' domain. This does not mean they are necessaly reallyover priced now thoug.

good domains generally get a good price.

The domainer to domainer sales may slow if newer domainers are not seeing the megabucks returns they were promised on certain hyped investments. At the end of the day someone will be left holding the tulips once the LLLLL.com LLLLLLLL.com CVCVCVC.com and other sellingoutfastregwhileyoucanpriceswillbeup250%inweeks crazes hit forums.

I dont think there is a slow down, however there is an increase in low quality names for sale.

The sales figures from the recent T.R.A.F.F.I.C (I am still waiting to find out what that stands for...) are 'down' however it is impossible to compare auctions as the lots are different. As for the higher profile Porn.mobi 'flop' it is worth checking the track record of those who predict high 6 and even 7 fig sale.

It is the old mantra of good names will always sell, however less come up for sale at reseller level as people are happy to keep them. You mention 1x£200 or 10X£35 sales - I personally dont believe you can think of domains like that as it depends on the specific names.

There is always the possiblity that those who were lucky to reg good names early on believe the hype that they are ahead of the game and went crazy in property / stocks and found out they were not actually Bill Gates V2 and lost cash and thus tightening belts...!

I think the problem is comparable with the football league. As soon as a player sells for £10m everyone ranks their player against that.

Hence the big sales that have been reported in the press recently has resulted in people asking silly prices for crap.

Here's an example I contacted someone about the domain bubble co uk and made an offer. They came back asking for £30k!!!!
Now am I wrong or is that ridiculous? what would you value that domain at?

ture there is a bit of hype at the mo with all the recent sales- crusies,co,uk etc. I think you're right i have found the same, its like sellers have just doubled their prices = ready for the next .com boom just around the corner :mrgreen:

The trouble is everone wants their domain to be worth mega bucks - i not sure if there really is a 'reseller' price anymore..

They weren't resellers, they were joe public with 1 domain. There's not many bargains to be had. You get people quoting cruises and recycle sale prices to you.

They were quoting that price back in early 2006 (and had turned down £10k then) so recent sales have not changed their perception.

They are a good example, they sell it to you for £5k , you sit on it and wait for reseller or end user @ £xx,xxx Why would it be in their interests to sell to you ?

Conversley I have been told of people quoting Acorn's sales area against sellers trying to show that a domain name is only worth £150 tops!

So did you offer £10k? not worth that imho. It's a brandable name not a commercial one. You'd have to sell a lot of bubbles. personally i'd pay £500 tops.
I can see the argument if it's a quality generic but not in that case.
Worlds gone crazy in my opinion. even non meaning 3 letters being quoted at £25k!

No I didnt offer the £10k, I would agree it isnt worth that - to me. End user listing 10-20k would not be shocking.

I mentioned it to someone and they said they had offered £10k previously with no joy. I then decided not to persue due to the higher counter and zero success with a bigger offer than mine.

Could be rubbish but no reason to doubt it, and the name aint shifted since. All back in early 06 this... which is lightyears online
