Please give a break down of the outgoings, because I'm thinking, say if it was for a daughter, £50 at most for a dress and that's it, what else is there to buy?

I'm no father but surely it's also hair, nails, limousine, makeup and spending money at least too?

£300 yesterday on a new 3 piece suit/dicky bow/braces/shirt/shoes
£275 on a monster truck to take him (i wanted the lambo but they are to common apparently)

I think i better start saving now for the daughter!

I didn't think about hair, nails or makeup etc, assumed a girl would do those herself with her mates, as for a limo, if it was local, wouldn't a taxi do?

Having never been to one, I thought that with it being a school thing, that it would be a free disco type of thing, no drink involved etc, so why the need for spending money.

Yeah I think it will be a nice day to remember, all the family will be around, will get some nice photos to look back on, and to be fair he really deserves it He`s been working so hard for his GCSE`s.
Makes me really proud and its a pleasure to do it for him.

It's interesting to hear how proms - very much a US import - seem to have become engrained in the fabric of school life. That's a pretty recent thing (over here) I guess - but then there are about a quintillion prom-themed films that must have contributed to pushing the idea.

Jesus that's expensive, but for such a one off special occasional probably worth it. My school prom 14 years ago was just a few chip in for a white stretch.

My daughter - £70 for new dress and shoes in a sale (plenty of notice that there will be a prom so no need to last minute buy), friends all did each other's hair and makeup, no limo, tenner on group photo, fabulous night had by all.
