SEO Domain PITA

I'm both venting and guessing a little here, but a business phone number of mine recently started getting calls for a dissolved, and not previously heard of, business. I think it goes like this:

Business sets website up in 2013, showing phone number.
Business website attracts some links (nothing major, 100 odd).
Business closes, domain drops, telephone number recycled to my business.
Domain registered in Mar 2016 (on the drop possibly) by SEO guru.
Old website rebuilt from Archive.org, and displays telephone number.
I start getting calls for old business!

There is only one outgoing link on the website. It is to a website named, wait for it.. Web Hosting Secrets Revealed. It's run by a self proclaimed "SEO Junkie" in Malaysia.

As the title says, what a pain in the arse.

We made a similar mistake a few years back, but were getting calls for a property developer.

Now, whenever we buy a VOIP number, especially if a skype one, run it through Google before buying, just to see what it brings up.

Not sure if you can do the same with a land line.
