I've seen a noticeable increase in the time it takes to serve the information on parked pages over the last few weeks.

I'm wondering if it's related to a 20% or so reduction in ppc revenue in the last 1-2months.

I've tried viewing a few of my pages at work (2Mb pipe+) and at home (1Mb+) and comparing with the speed to load vs a couple large forums at the same time.

parked pages always come out slower. People aren't going to wait more than a couple of seconds, especially if all they see is adverts.

Hi there Stephen,

It's strange that you mention the pages are slow. I'm finding them particularly fast at the moment. We just moved onto our 3rd new cluster and things are looking OK. I'm viewing them from Germany so I would imagine the lag from Canada should be about the same as you in the UK. Are your pages DNS parked or URL forwarded? I've just checked both and they both seem fine to me. It could be because you caught the system at the time it's updating but I doubt you always catch the system updating every time you test the pages, so this most likely is not the reason.
Obviously a slowdown in pages would lead to less money at the end of the day which is why we are constantly upgrading our servers before we use up the capacity on them. If you let me know any pages in particular that are loading slowly, I'd be glad to have a look at them and see if it's something about your individual account. I don't want to hear about 20% less earnings because the last 3 days have been our 3 highest system-wide PPC days since we started so we'd like everyone to be seeing that.
Is anyone else experiencing slow pages?

Ed

They're all dns parked.

ISP's are UK based.

I'll do another few experiments over the next few days to see if there's any time of day issues.

I am finding pages really really slow, with 1meg :confused: no surprises i have had 0 hits today then.:(

16% CTR yesterday - much lower than normal would suggest something was up.
Thursday =% 29.67
Friday = % 26.14
Saturday= % 31.25
Sunday= % 26.19
Monday= % 23.03
Tuesday= % 24.84

Seems to be a small blip downwards but lets see over next few days

DG

ach this is massively frustrating. Having tested the pages, despite having a million things running at the same time, the pages are snapping onto the screen in Germany. However, it clearly seems things are loading slow in England if you guys all agree. I've already got onto our server guys about this, so hopefully we can have a swift resolution.
Strange that it seems to be a UK-centred problem. This would affect the CTR, but not the views. Views will still be counted even if the pages take a long time to load. Which they won't after today.
If anybody has concerns over dropping CTR / Earnings etc, contact me and we'll certainly look into it.

Ed

Yesterday mine dropped from about 20% to 15%, but that does seem to be within the normal range and anyway I'm very small time.

Yes access does seeem to get very slow sometimes.

No views at all today.

ED, why not set up some servers in the UK ?. Im sure Netserve.co.uk would give you a very good deal ?.

DG

Hi DG,

We do actually already have some servers in the UK, but shifiting servers transatlantically is a tricky process. I know of 2 or 3 companies who've tried doing it the other way round - i.e. going from Europe to the US and it took a lot of implementation and fiddling to get done right.
The UK is a very important market for us, so we're doing all we can to get things faster asap.

eg I've just traced aaron.co.uk on ND and it's not up to much.

(Use freeware ping plotter from http://www.pingplotter.com/download.html)

140 to 160ms ping times and lots of packet loss at the teleglobe.net handoff to some unknown network.

23 hops is rather a lot and from the time it reaches the US it looks like it routes though at least 3 if not 4 ISP networks before it reaches the nd network.

I'd say there's something odd going on at the edge of Teleglobe's network.

Id say thats partly down to your ISP and their peering points.

I rech aaron.co.uk in 13 hops, all on the same network. Teleglobe isnt connected to that domain or Namedrive (or certainly the bank of servers im loooking at arent)

I have response times to destination of 112ms which is

a) well within our SLA
b) a good deal better than most UK ISPs

Can't give any techie details, but moved our portfolio over to Namedrive recently. Parked pages serving seems OK, but access to ND control panel + making changes/previewing pages can indeed be slow at times. Definitely slower than SEDO I would say, but only a subjective observation, albeit from a few different locations. Other service and facilities excellent however, + great customer service. Still assessing revenue but looks on course to be better than SEDO at the moment so not moving back just yet!

Don't get me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry.... :twisted:

I've got hops to Telehouse North with my upstream who are one of the largest peers in London at Linx, Lonap, Lipex etc. From there, London Teleglobe router and then it's all Teleglobe right up to the 18th hope where it arrives in Canada and then bounces round a few ISP's.

Would you like to post a ping plotter graph?

If other users are seeing a slow response time, try a traceroute, if it goes anywhere near teleglobe that may be the bottleneck.

Whose SLA?

How does 112ms ping time being better than most UK ISP's make any difference?

And how can you get 13 hops on the same network? Are you saying that you're connected to the same ISP that delivers transit to Namedrive in CA and that there are no 3rd party networks in the middle?
